Why I created Purple People


Some people fall into marketing. I ran straight at it.

From the moment I started pulling apart computers, I knew tech would shape my life. But when I found marketing? That’s when it clicked. It wasn’t just about tactics—it was about people, stories, and creating real impact.

At 19, I entered the tech world with no roadmap—just relentless drive. I worked full-time while putting myself through uni, climbing from entry-level roles to leading marketing across APAC for brands like Telstra, Intel, McAfee and Adobe. I learned it all—from digital, and events to global launches and analytics.

After 23 years in corporate, everything changed when I lost a close friend. It made me pause. Reflect. And finally ask: What do I really want to build?

The answer was clear.

I’d always dreamed of starting something of my own—an agency fuelled by purpose, not process. One that helps businesses grow with intention and stand out for the right reasons.

So I took the leap. And Purple People was born.

We don’t do cookie-cutter. We tell bold stories, build unforgettable brands, and create marketing that actually matters.

With a career leading strategy for global giants like Adobe, McAfee, Intel and Telstra she’s the architect behind bold campaigns that don’t just make noise—they make impact.

Mel blends performance marketing with storytelling that connects. She’s led digital transformations, built marketing ecosystems from the ground up, and turned customer journeys into seamless, high-converting experiences. Whether launching new platforms, expanding into emerging markets, or aligning global teams around a shared vision, she brings clarity, energy, and fearless direction.

Her approach is part data, part instinct—all wrapped in a deep understanding of what makes people care. Mel doesn’t do cookie-cutter. She builds marketing with meaning—strategies that scale, stories that stick, and results that matter.
